Through the centuries, Italy has attracted people from all over the world in search of culture and romance. Its immeasurable art and architecture, its classical picture postcard landscapes, its dazzling coastlines, its palatable cuisine and wines are just some of the reasons why Italy has become one of the most popular country’s to visit. Italy’s music, art and literacy are rarely paralleled by any other country. The long and glorious history of Italy started some fifty thousand years ago which has shaped the architecture you can see, and even stay in today.
VENETO
Say Veneto and you immediately think of Venice. St. Mark's Square, the great lagoon, the gondolas on the Grand Canal, the Bridge of Sighs, the wild Carnival, the great architecture, the artistic masterpieces, the sumptuous palazzi, the magic of the narrow streets, the Biennale Art Exhibition, the Fenice Theatre, the prestigious universities, the many indications of the splendour and grandiose wealth of a marine power that dominated the Mediterranean for centuries.
But the Veneto is not just Venice, and its landscape does not just consist of the sea. The mountains of the Veneto have a rare beauty. The Dolomites seen from Cortina d'Ampezzo, the famous holiday resort in the province of Belluno, are a fabulous spectacle. And the whole area of the river Po delta, in the province of Rovigo, is a unique environment of exceptional natural interest.
At Padua, an ancient and learned city, the majestic Basilica that houses the relics of S. Antonio attracts millions of pilgrims every year. The attraction of the Palladian Villas is also strong, named after their creator, the great architect Andrea Palladio who, in the sixteenth century, planned and realised buildings whose harmonious beauty is still capable of astonishing, such as La Rotonda in Vicenza. And during the summer at Verona, the city immortalised by Shakespeare in his Romeo and Juliet, a night at the opera in the Arena should not be missed.
PADOVA
Padova is situated in the centre of Veneto. Even today the town welcomes the tourists with its suggestive medieval atmosphere. Every corner of the old town centre reveals its historical and artistic aspects.
Many artists had left some most important works of art: frescoes by Giotto in Scrovegni Chapel (14th century), the Duomo and the Baptistery with frescoes by Giusto de’ Menabuoi, the Basilica complex with the masterpieces by Donatello (15th century) and Tiziano (the Renaissance), the Piazza Eremitani with Chapel containing frescoes by Andrea Mantegna. The surroundings of Padua are famous for their artistic, archaeological, cultural and natural heritage.
The latest peculiarities of this area are excellent gastronomic specialities and wine-making, highly appreciated both by experts and regular clients.
